Christopher Nolan will Get Knighthood

British-American filmmaker Christopher Nolan, who recently won an Oscar for his historical drama Oppenheimer, will be honored with a knighthood by the British government for his contributions to the film industry. His wife, Emma Thomas, who is also a film producer, will receive a damehood, the female equivalent of a knighthood. This announcement was made by Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, who recommended the honors along with recognizing other notable figures in politics and the tech industry.

Oppenheimer, a highly successful biopic about the race to create the first atomic bomb, received seven Academy Awards, including Best Picture, earlier this year. This film also earned Nolan his first Academy Award for Best Director. Nolan has an impressive filmography that includes critically acclaimed movies like Interstellar, Inception, Dunkirk, and the Batman trilogy. He wrote the screenplay for Oppenheimer and produced it alongside Emma Thomas.

In addition to Nolan and Thomas, other individuals recognized with knighthoods include Demis Hassabis, the CEO of Google’s DeepMind, as well as Matthew Clifford, an AI adviser to the British government, and Ian Hogarth, the chair of the AI Safety Institute, both of whom received CBEs (Commander of the Order of the British Empire).

Mohamed Mansour, a billionaire businessman and donor to the Conservative Party, was also granted a knighthood for his contributions to business, charity, and politics.

Prime Minister Sunak also bestowed honors upon Conservative lawmakers, with knighthoods given to Philip Davies and Mark Spencer, and damehoods awarded to Tracey Crouch and Harriett Baldwin.

Ted Sarandos, the co-CEO of Netflix, received an honorary CBE for his contributions to the creative industries.
