Connects you with your favorite muse

Is the era of quiet luxury coming to an end? If you’re tired of the overhyped TikTok trends, you might be in luck this fall. The latest collections showcased during Fashion Week in New York, London, Milan, and Paris introduced exciting new ways to wear wardrobe essentials. This included innovative techniques like wearing your button-down shirt backward or adding quirky and shiny tinsel fringe to your trench coat. Little black dresses took inspiration from lingerie, featuring designs that either freed the nipple or playfully incorporated underwear elements. Pants are also making a comeback, much to everyone’s relief, even at Miu Miu, with voluminous silhouettes and loose cuts. Below, you’ll find the 7 fashion trends for fall 2024!

Not-So-Basic Basics

fall 2024 fashion trendsDESIGN BY PERRI TOMKIEWICZ; IMAGES COURTESY OF LAUNCHMETRICS, GETTY IMAGES

Designers took a not-so-everyday approach to everyday dressing this season, creating texture and movement through playful layering and exaggerated silhouettes. For fall, it’s not necessarily about looking put-together in the traditional sense. Instead, it’s about finding your own way to wear basic wardrobe staples.

Color Clash

If the fall runways are any indication, it’s time to retire monochrome and go for something much more bold. Unexpected color combinations like Technicolor neons and cool pastels give verve to everyday dressing.

Clear Eyes, Full Skirts, Can’t Lose

Ladylike dressing is back, thanks in part to Capote’s Swans’ star turn in Ryan Murphy’s latest Feud, but its contemporary iteration is so much cooler and less rigid. Case in point: the varied flared skirts that came down the fall runways this season. Some had unfinished hems, others were sculpted, and all had a fluidity that worked just as well with a hoodie as with a tailored jacket or button-up shirt.

Throw It On and Go

This season, designers elevated the idea of effortless dressing with great success. Soft, simple fabrics were key, and draped and folded outerwear didn’t look overly complicated or heavy-handed, and managed to move seamlessly with the wearer.

Hey there, fashion lovers! The Oscars 2024 red carpet has dazzled us with some jaw-dropping looks this year, and we’re here to break down the best-dressed stars who stole the show. From stunning gowns to impeccable hair and makeup, this year’s Academy Awards were not just about the films but also about the fabulous fashion. Let’s dive into the standout looks from the night!

The Red Carpet: A Fashion Wonderland

The Oscars are always a major event in Hollywood, and the red carpet is where the real magic happens. This year, stars brought their A-game, showcasing exquisite designer creations that left us all in awe. It’s not just about the gowns; hair, makeup, nails, and jewelry were all on point, making this year’s awards a feast for the eyes.

Emma Stone: A Vision in Elegance

Starting off our list is the stunning Emma Stone, who never fails to impress. This year, she graced the red carpet in a breathtaking gown that perfectly accentuated her figure. The intricate detailing and flowing silhouette gave her an ethereal look, reminiscent of old Hollywood glamour.

Emma’s hair was styled in soft waves, framing her face beautifully, while her makeup was flawlessly executed with a classic red lip that added a pop of color. To top it off, she accessorized with delicate diamond earrings that caught the light perfectly, making her a true standout at the Oscars 2024.

Carey Mulligan: Chic and Timeless

Next up, we have the ever-chic Carey Mulligan. This year, she opted for a sophisticated ensemble that showcased her unique style. The gown featured a modern twist on classic lines, with a fitted bodice and a dramatic train that flowed elegantly behind her.

Carey’s hair was pulled back into a sleek bun, allowing her statement earrings to shine. Her makeup was fresh and natural, with a focus on glowing skin and a subtle smokey eye. Carey’s look was a perfect blend of modern and timeless, making her one of the best-dressed stars of the night.

Lily Gladstone: Bold and Beautiful

Lily Gladstone made a statement on the red carpet with her bold fashion choice that turned heads. This year, she chose a vibrant color that reflected her personality and confidence. The gown was adorned with exquisite embellishments that added a touch of drama.

Lily’s hair was styled in loose curls, giving her a carefree, bohemian vibe. Her makeup featured rich tones that complemented her outfit beautifully, and she sported intricate nail art that added an extra layer of detail to her look. Lily’s fearless approach to fashion made her one of the most memorable attendees at the Oscars 2024.

Florence Pugh: Edgy Elegance

Another standout this year was the always daring Florence Pugh. Known for her unique style, Florence didn’t disappoint with her choice of a modern, edgy gown that pushed the boundaries of traditional red carpet fashion. The asymmetrical design and bold cutouts showcased her figure in a way that was both flattering and fashion-forward.

Florence’s makeup was equally striking, featuring metallic accents that enhanced her features and added an unexpected twist to her overall look. Her hair was styled in an avant-garde updo that added to the drama. With her fearless fashion choices, Florence Pugh proved once again why she’s a red carpet favorite.

Michelle Yeoh: Regal and Radiant

Michelle Yeoh, the reigning queen of the Oscars, graced the event in a regal gown that exuded elegance. The intricate details and luxurious fabric made her look nothing short of royalty. The gown’s flowing silhouette highlighted her figure beautifully, and she carried herself with the grace of a true star.

Her hair was styled in a sophisticated updo, adorned with delicate hairpins that added a touch of sparkle. Michelle’s makeup was flawless, with a focus on achieving a radiant glow. Her combination of elegance and poise made her one of the best-dressed stars at the Oscars 2024.

Margot Robbie: Classic Hollywood Glam

Margot Robbie brought classic Hollywood glam to the red carpet this year. Her gown was a stunning tribute to the timeless elegance of past eras, featuring a fitted bodice and a sweeping train. The soft color palette complemented her complexion perfectly, giving her an ethereal look.

Margot’s hair was styled in vintage waves, enhancing the old-school vibe of her outfit. Her makeup was beautifully done, focusing on a soft eye and a classic nude lip. With her elegant and sophisticated look, Margot Robbie once again proved she’s a red carpet darling.

The Stylist’s Night to Shine

Let’s not forget that the Oscars 2024 red carpet isn’t just about the stars; it’s also a huge night for Hollywood’s stylists. Behind every stunning look is a talented designer and stylist who brings the vision to life. The creativity and artistry involved in crafting these looks deserve recognition, as they play a crucial role in making the stars shine on one of the biggest nights in Hollywood.

Accessorizing to Perfection

Accessories also played a significant role in elevating the looks of our favorite stars. From statement earrings to stunning necklaces, the jewelry choices were as captivating as the gowns themselves.

Adding the right accessories can transform an outfit from beautiful to breathtaking, and this year’s Oscars were no exception. Stars like Emma Stone and Carey Mulligan chose pieces that complemented their looks perfectly, proving that the right accessories can elevate any ensemble.

Final Thoughts

As we reflect on the Oscars 2024, it’s clear that this year’s red carpet was filled with stunning fashion moments. From Emma Stone’s classic elegance to Lily Gladstone’s bold choices, the looks were as diverse as the talent being honored.

As the awards season continues, we can’t wait to see how the stars will keep impressing us with their fashion choices. The Oscars are not just a celebration of film; they’re also a showcase of creativity, artistry, and the power of fashion.

Pantone 2024, Peach Fuzz, has arrived, quite literally. In just over a week into the new year, this soft coral hue is already making appearances in sweaters, sneakers, and sunglasses, with experts at Firstfinds predicting its prevalence in the upcoming spring season. With the selection of 20 Peach Fuzz fashion items below, you can be among the early adopters of this latest color trend.

“Pantone’s knack for anticipating prominent fashion hues is unparalleled,” says Summer Cartwright, senior editor at Firstfinds. “Last year’s Viva Magenta set the stage for the 2023 Barbiecore trend.” Expect subtle peach tones to surpass hot pink soon, as they are more versatile and easier to incorporate into monochromatic ensembles. Additionally, anticipate the literal interpretation of the color name, with peach fuzz-inspired textures like fleece, suede, and corduroy making their way into our wardrobes.

In Pantone’s annual color report, Peach Fuzz is described as “an appealing peach hue nestled delicately between pink and orange, evoking a sense of belonging, recalibration, and nurturing. It exudes tranquility, providing a space for healing and flourishing.” The report’s color palette projections for Pantone 2024 pair muted orange and salmon pink tones with a range of neutrals such as cream and tan, as well as vibrant shades like lavender, teal, berry, and mint green. Women are the vital force driving the fashion industry, yet female designers continue to face underrepresentation. In this feature, thirteen outstanding female designers share their experiences of how their identities shape their work and their efforts to bring about change. From Madeleine Vionnet’s revolutionary bias cut to Coco Chanel’s flowing pants and Norma Kamali’s innovative sportswear, female designers have made significant contributions to fashion. However, alongside practical and comfort-oriented designs, there are also those who create elaborate and whimsical fashion-as-art, such as Rei Kawakubo and Iris van Herpen.

While female designers have diverse approaches, they are consistently underrepresented in the upper echelons of the industry. To commemorate International Women’s Day and Women’s History Month, ELLE interviewed designers leading their brands to discuss their inspirations, the influence of their gender identity on their work, and the steps the fashion industry can take to address the gender imbalance.

For some designers, being a woman shapes their approach to fashion. Tory Burch highlights the intuition and problem-solving skills of women designers, emphasizing the importance of balancing realness with creativity. Silvia Venturini Fendi believes that her experiences as a woman inform her designs and contribute to breaking down strictly male codes in menswear. Maria Grazia Chiuri of Dior is fascinated by the idea of using clothes to fashion one’s identity, recognizing their dual role as decorative and empowering tools.

Designers like Gabriela Hearst, Batsheva Hay, and Laura Kim design with a deep understanding of women’s bodies and their evolving needs. They prioritize framing and empowering women rather than restricting them. Simone Rocha finds personal experiences and designing for women to be interconnected, while Aurora James stresses the importance of supporting and uplifting female talent through initiatives like her nonprofit, Fifteen Percent Pledge.

The fashion industry can contribute to nurturing and promoting female talent by replicating the support structures that have benefited designers like Aurora James. Hearst emphasizes the importance of empowering women and involving them in leadership positions to address the pressing issues faced by society. Supporting designers outside the major fashion capitals, providing resources for working parents, and challenging the narrative of a lack of female creative directors are additional steps that can be taken to foster female talent and achieve greater gender equality in the industry.

Though New York Fashion Week started off at a balmy 50 degrees Fahrenheit, by the final show, guests had endured a snowstorm and below-freezing temperatures. And we know that New York City is constantly evolving, and one of the contributing factors is the daring and unique fashion trends.

Dress for warmth, or break out a great-but-impractical outfit? It’s the question every editor, buyer, and influencer asked themselves as they left their house for a stacked schedule of shows. But the street style photos proved that those with (great) boots on the ground found a happy, stylish medium with furry jackets.

The style was everywhere this season. And the bold outerwear choice was styled in every which way. It’s a simple way to add texture to any look, which is why it made all of our favorite looks pop.

The trend is also not just some New York Fashion Week microtrend—it’s everywhere. You see it on the sleek slopes in aprés-ski style, on the Soprano wannabes of TikTok’s mob wife trend, and on the high-society women of Ryan Murphy’s Feud: Capote vs. the Swans.

Below, discover the ways that furry outwear stole this Fashion Week, and shop some of the best styles available while the weather is still cold enough to wear them, no sweat.

During the early-mid 2000s, there was a time when New York seemed to be at the epicenter of the fashion world. The internet broke down the barriers of the industry, making once exclusive runways accessible to a wider audience. While fashion centers in Europe resisted this democratization, New York embraced it wholeheartedly. It was a glamorous and star-studded affair, with celebrities in the front row, reality shows, designer collaborations for the mass market, bloggers (to some extent), and the iconic fashion tents. However, this era had its limitations and became somewhat one-dimensional.

Over the years, New York Fashion Week has experienced fragmentation and struggles as it tries to redefine itself. As the European luxury market expands and becomes more expensive, commerciality has become a dominant force. In contrast, in New York, it feels like the opposite effect is taking place.

For emerging and independent labels, building a successful business and turning a profit is an incredibly challenging task, mainly because the industry’s traditional infrastructure doesn’t provide much support for emerging talent. This season, both established and emerging labels exude a gritty determination. It’s a quality that is unique to New York City, born from the city’s demanding and relentless hustle.

The timing is ideal for brands to focus on their own identities. According to McKinsey’s “The State of Fashion 2024” report, brands will need to move away from performance marketing and instead concentrate on nurturing personal and emotional connections with customers.

Willy Chavarria and Hillary Taymour of Collina Strada are two designers who have carved their own paths while also understanding how to expand their reach. Chavarria, in particular, has revolutionized American Ivy prep by making it accessible to those who have traditionally been excluded. He has become a beloved figure in the city, offering a fresh perspective. Chavarria’s skillful tailoring, exemplified by his baggy, flowing wool houndstooth trousers or double-breasted jacket with pronounced shoulders, opens up a world of possibilities for individuals who have felt marginalized in the predominantly white world of Americana fashion. In Willy Chavarria’s United States, clothing reflects reality but is filtered through a lens of fantasy, resulting in a unique blend of the provocative and the practical.

On the contrary, Taymour always approaches things with a sense of humor. In her latest collection, she played with the concept of feminine strength by incorporating mini dresses with padded biceps and shoulders. One model even sported psychedelic print shorts while carrying dumbbells made from kombucha squash instead of traditional weights. As always, Taymour’s casting included a diverse mix of her friends and chosen family, with one woman holding a baby and another visibly pregnant. Taymour has consistently stayed true to her vision and commitment to sustainability. She remains unwavering in her principles and has yet to seek external investment for her brand, which can be found at various retailers ranging from Nordstrom to SSENSE.

Sometimes we may be perplexed by unique dressing styles during many Fashion Week, but for fashion enthusiasts, confidence is important.

New York, typically known for its grey concrete and towering skyscrapers, has undergone a remarkable transformation. As we dive headfirst into the fall/winter 2024 calendar of New York Fashion Week, fashion-forward individuals have been flocking to the streets outside the shows like moths drawn to a flame. Helmut Lang set the tone, while Peter Do presented his second collection for the brand. Do drew inspiration from the iconic designer’s archives, incorporating playful ‘Chinatown bag’ prints, vibrant orange knits, and even the famous bubble wrap jacket, which Do reimagined in luxurious silk.

At Eckhaus Latta, a movement toward minimalism was evident, delivered with an undeniable sensuality. The collection featured knits that accentuated the body, acid wash garments, and strategically placed slashes that revealed just the right amount of skin. For those seeking the irresistible taste of New York cool, Tommy Hilfiger’s show on the first evening of NYFW was the place to be. The runway showcased the brand’s signature pieces such as crewnecks, varsity jackets, and polo shirts, updated with a preppy and essential twist that perfectly aligned with the chic and modern ambiance of its star-studded front row. Rumor has it that Lily van der Woodsen was spotted among the attendees.

On the streets, fashion enthusiasts embraced the sun’s appearance, bidding farewell to heavy coats and furs and opting for lightweight trenches and tailored blazers instead. Playful layering techniques incorporated various textures and vibrant pops of color. Classic patterns like pinstripes and plaids, along with occasional bows, continued to captivate the fashion crowd.

Explore the most fabulous moments of street style from the fall/winter 2024 cycle of New York Fashion Week below, as captured by Phil Oh, capturing the electrifying buzz surrounding it all.

The event showcased a plethora of lively and captivating outfits, including Taylor Swift’s eye-catching Schiaparelli ensemble with a unique watch-clock choker necklace set to midnight, and Ice Spice’s nostalgic ’90s-inspired Baby Phat outfit. Ahead, the 10 best dressed celebrities at the 2025 Grammys.

Dua Lipa in custom Courrèges and Tiffany & Co.

When asked about her custom Courrèges look, which she styled with a Tiffany & Co. necklace depicting two koi fish caught in a kiss, Dua Lipa said she felt “very strong.” And while the deep V-neck gown absolutely looks like something a Barbie would wear while shimmying to “Dance the Night,” it really feels more Joan of Arc than anything. Then again, we’re sure the early feminist would have also been a Barbie stan.

Miley Cyrus in custom Margiela

With custom Margiela and a close-to-God updo, Miley Cyrus is channeling both her own godmother, Dolly Parton, and the godmother of red carpet iconography, Cher. This barely-there gold metal look is made up of hundreds of safety pins and was created for her by John Galliano, who referenced a similar look from his FW 1996 collection. Between this look and the designer’s viral Margiela couture show, 2024 is shaping up to be a comeback of sorts for the designer, who shaped much of the ’90s and early ’00s with theatrical shows that found their way onto the red carpet.

Taylor Swift in Schiaparelli couture

Only Taylor Swift could start trending hours before the Grammys just because she changed her profile picture to a black-and-white photo. Fans suspected she was about to announce the highly anticipated Reputation (Taylor’s Version) drop, so when Swift’s website suspiciously went down shortly before the ceremony, she sent Twitter into a spiral. Swifties assumed the singer would be wearing all black—an homage to the Reputation era—but instead, she wore a sculptural white Schiaparelli couture gown with long trains and a high leg slit, black opera gloves, and a watch choker. Of course, fans are dissecting every last detail as we write this—or would be, if they weren’t freaking out about her big announcement.

Ice Spice in Baby Phat

Back in the 2000s, musicians didn’t necessarily have stylists, and they’d wear Canadian tuxedos, skirts over pants, apple-bottom jeans and boots with the fur with reckless abandon. It was FUN. Leave it to Ice Spice to bring that same kind of energy into 2024 with a Baby Phat denim look trimmed with fuzzy details. She may have been barely a month old when the 2000 Grammys took place, but her looks feels like it could have pulled right from that red carpet.

Gracie Abrams in Chanel

On the other hand, Spice’s fellow Best New Artist nominee Gracie Abrams went more subtle, in an all-black midriff-baring two-piece set by Chanel. When asked by red carpet host Laverne Cox about it, Abrams said she just wanted to “feel like I was in my own skin—and also match my mom.” Although Abrams and Ice Spice wore two completely different looks, what they shared was a commitment to personal style. Abrams really did look like one of her songs come to life.

Olivia Rodrigo in archival Versace

Olivia Rodrigo channeled Old Hollywood glamor in a white gown speckled in shimmering embellishments. The look was archival Versace from the Spring 1995 collection, originally worn by supermodel Linda Evangelista. Rodrigo consistently has the best vintage pulls, the kind that her Gen Z fans lust after online and would probably write angsty, envious ballads about wishing they owned.

Laverne Cox in archival Comme des Garçons

You can always expect Laverne Cox not only to style herself, but also to show up in a piece from her own personal archival. Cox is just that fashion girl. For tonight, she wore a Spring/Summer 2015 Comme des Garçons look. She loves it because of what Rei Kawakubo said the collection was meant to represent, which was all about finding the beauty in things that are disturbing.

Tyla in custom Versace

The only thing better than winning your first Grammy at 22 years old is winning your first Grammy at 22 years old in custom Versace. Tyla’s asymmetrical pastel-green gown resembled similar pieces from the house’s 2004 collection. But perhaps the most Y2K detail was the way the fabric wrapped around her to expose her hips, upper thighs, and bellybutton ring—the last of which is perhaps the most unexpected early aughts trend to come back.

Caroline Polachek in archival Olivier Theyskens

Caroline Polachek isn’t known just for her music, but also for the visual world she’s been able to create. Her archival FW 1998 Olivier Theyskens look isn’t just major because it’s major, but also because it also feels completely in tune with her otherworldly universe. With a red lace panel that appears to erupt, creating cracks in her black gown, the look seems like it was made for her, even though it came to be long before she set foot in the studio.

Victoria Monét in Versace

Everyone always talks about couples who coordinate their looks—but what could possibly be more iconic than a mommy-and-me Versace moment? Victoria Monét twinned with her daughter, Hazel, who is officially a best-dressed Grammys guest at just two years old.
