BLACKPINK's Jennie Makes History with Solo Album
May 19, 2025
Jennie from BLACKPINK is showing the world she’s more than just a K-pop star. Her new solo album Ruby, released on March 7, 2025, is now the best-selling K-pop solo album in the United States this year! This is her first full album as a solo artist, after leaving YG Entertainment in 2023. She now runs her own label, Odd Atelier, and worked with Columbia Records to bring Ruby to life.
A Bold, Stylish Sound
Ruby has 15 songs with many different styles — from pop and hip-hop to smooth R&B. The lyrics talk about love, fame, and Jennie’s journey as an artist. She worked with famous global stars like Childish Gambino, Dua Lipa, Dominic Fike, Doechii, FKJ, and Kali Uchis, making the album feel fresh and international.
Jennie didn’t just sing — she helped write and produce many of the tracks. There’s even a special version of the album with only Jennie’s voice — no featured artists at all!
Big Sales, Big Impact
In just one week, Ruby sold over one million copies around the world — a huge achievement for any K-pop soloist. In South Korea alone, she sold over 660,000 copies, setting a record for female K-pop solo artists in 2025.
The album also became a hit in over 19 countries, entering the top ten charts in places like the US, UK, Australia, and more.
Making History in the US
In the United States, Ruby entered the Billboard 200 chart at number 7, with 56,000 album units sold in the first week. That includes 26,500 physical sales and over 40 million online streams! Jennie is now the third BLACKPINK member to hit the US top ten with a solo album, after Rosé and Lisa.
She also reached number two on the Billboard Top Album Sales chart — making Ruby one of the top-selling K-pop albums in the US this year.
Top Charts in the UK and Australia
In the UK, Ruby debuted at number 3 — the best result ever for a female K-pop soloist. In Australia, it came in at number 2, matching the success of Rosé’s Rosie. Jennie is now one of the few K-pop stars with three top-charting albums in Australia.
Stylish, Strong, and Loved by Fans
Music critics love Ruby for its cool sound and Jennie’s bold style. They say the album proves she is more than just a BLACKPINK member — she is a true artist in her own right.
Her hit songs “Mantra” and “Like Jennie” are also doing great worldwide. “Mantra” hit number 3 on the Billboard Global 200, while “Like Jennie” went to number 5 globally and number 1 in Korea!
The Ruby Experience
To promote Ruby, Jennie held special shows in four cities starting March 6. She also appeared on TV interviews to talk about the album and connect with fans.
A New Era for K-pop Solo Stars
Ruby is more than just an album — it’s a powerful moment for female K-pop solo artists. Jennie’s success shows that K-pop stars can stand strong on their own and shine around the world.
If you love music, fashion, and fearless women, Ruby is a must-listen. Jennie is not just following trends — she’s setting them.
